![]() Who would consider PPC when developing a major upgrade ? There's also the fact that it is the last non-Intel version. I'm going to stick my neck out and say that part of the decreased compatibility may come from the lack of Java support. Is it possible that Leopard will be the final OS X (longer lasting I mean) or will I have to worry about it too becoming deprecated and incompatible in four more years? I am planning planning on buying a new Mac some time. I mean would something like service pack for Panther even be possible? (I guess I'm not sure what that does) I just want to find out what is behind Panther's ever withering compatibility and I would like to know why Apple bothers to make latest versions of their programs compatible with Windows and other OS's, but leave out their own Panther users. As a PC user, my operating system would always be up to date with service packs and such, no matter if it even was five years old (Windows 2000 and XP still running strong with newer programs -iTunes 8). All the latest versions of my favorite programs like Firefox, Adobe, iTunes, etc are no longer supported on my OS. However, I'm concerned about how obsolete Panther is becoming. I must say, as a previous PC user, I've really enjoyed the switch to Mac in the first couple of years. ![]()
